Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)

Red cedar is a small native tree that grows well with full sun exposure on most soil types. Often used as a windbreak or visual screen. There are many cultivars available, but the tree generally grows to a maximum height of 40′ with a spread of 10-20′. Its round cones and small blue berries distinguish it from white cedar.

White Cedar/ Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis)

A very common landscape tree. Its many cultivars can be columnar or rounded; very small or up to 50′ tall. Used frequently as a specimen or accent tree; as well as windbreaks or visual screens. Its oblong-shaped cones open into a rose-shaped display.
