White Pine (Pinus strobus)

White pine is the only pine commonly found in Southern WI with needles that come in clusters of 5; it is also a native pine. In the right conditions white pine can grow over a 100 ft. tall, but can also be found in smaller varieties. Needles are 2-4″ long and have a softer more pliable feeling than other pine species. Cones are 3-7″ long and a slender 1.5″ wide.
